"Foes & Cons" Review

Last week I talked about all of the exciting books that I acquired recently and I mentioned two advanced readers copies that I recieved. Today I am reviewing one of those new releases, "Foes and Cons"!

"Foes and Cons" is a new adult/adult romance novel written by Carrie Aarons. It was officially released today, April 30, 2021! Happy release day, "Foes and Cons" ! If you would like to purchase "Foes and Cons" you can find it on Amazon.

I found Carrie on Tiktok where she often promotes her previous books and have been looking forward to reading some of her books! She has an extensive collection and really does have something for everyone! She has books in so many romance subgenera and many of her books highlight different and unique tropes. This book, for example, showcases the friends-to-enemies-to lovers trope.

I follow Carrie on Instagram as well (she's awesome, you should too!) and I saw that she was going to be releasing a new book, "Foes & Cons" this month! I quickly signed up for the opportunity to receive an advanced readers copy (ARC) for review!

You can follow Carrie on Instagram, Goodreads, and TikTok! You can also check out her website! She posts all kinds of news about her upcoming and already released books and lots of pictures of her sweet family!

Before I get into this review I would like to give a HUGE shoutout to Carrie for sending me this ARC. This was a fantastic introduction to your writing style, Carrie. I really enjoyed it. Also, thank you to Grey's Promotions for making sure it got to me! With that being said, all views expressed within this review are my own.

"Foes and Cons" is a dual point of view romance novel which centers around main character Blair Oden and her former best friend turned current enemy and classmate Saywer. Blair and Sawyer were childhood best friends. They were inseparable, practically attached at the hip. Blair has been harboring a secret crush on her best friend Sawyer for years. Everything changes when Blair finds a list, written by Sawyer, which clearly states all of the pros and all of the cons that would come with dating her. Suffice to say that there were more items under the cons column, which understandably upsets Blair. Instead of confronting Sawyer or just talking things out with him (like a normal person), Blair decides to draw a line in the sand by embarrassing him in a very humiliating and very public way. The friendship is irreparable at this point. Blair and Sawyer are no longer friends, they are enemies.

Sawyer and all of his friends decide to repay Blair for all of the embarrassment and humiliation and she becomes the brunt of mean jokes and rumors. Sawyer and his friends return the favor in such a way that it causes Blair to leave for a bit. Now, she's back and she's a much more hardened version of herself. She is still hurt by all of the things that been through but she is no longer okay with being a door mat. The years of pain and betrayal come flooding back but along with all of those feelings come years of suppressed romantic feelings, which neither one of them was prepared for.

I gave this book a 4/5 star rating on Goodreads. The pacing was moderate which I thought was great! It was never too slow or boring to me but it also was not all over the place with so much going on that I had no idea what to look at. I loved the writing style and I loved the characters. I got invested in Blair and Sawyer. I wanted to root for them and felt that they were developed well.

This was my introduction to Carrie Aarons' writing style, but I guarantee that this will not be the last book of hers that I read. I enjoyed her writing style, it was the highlight of this book for me. She really did a fantastic job with developing the characters and the story. I did not want this book to end and was sad that it was over when I finished it!

Overall, this book was a very good and fun read and I really enjoyed it! This book does have adult dialogue, situations, and language. I would consider this book to be a new adult romance book, meaning that it is best suited and most appropriate for ages 18+. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes contemporary adult romance, enemies to lovers, and second chance romance novels but do be prepared for the adult content as mentioned above.

With all books that I read, I make a playlist to go along with the book. These playlists are full of songs which encapsulate the feeling of the story as a whole, capture the essence of a particular scene, or just remind me of one of the characters. You can find my playlist for "Foes and Cons" on Apple Music or Spotify.

I hope you enjoyed reading my review of "Foes and Cons" by Carrie Aarons!

As always, thank you for reading!

XO,

Madison
