It has been a while since my mom and I have been Little Free Library hunting. We had some time last Saturday and decided to go revisit the LFL's in the Decatur area. There are over 60 Little Free Libraries in Decatur and I walked away with lots of good finds. An added bonus was that I was able to add books that I have read and loved to the Little Libraries. I hope that the next reader who picks them up loves them like I did! The book that I am reviewing today is a book written by an author who was a childhood favorite of mine that I picked up from one of the libraries we visited.
Hit and Run is a horror novel written by author, R.L. Stine. It was released in June of 1992.
If you would like to purchase Hit and Run you can find it on Amazon. You can follow the author, R.L. Stine, on Instagram and Goodreads! You can also check out his website!
Eddie, Scott, Winks, and Cassie. They went out for a drive one night. Just to practice, so Eddie would be sure and get his license.
Then Eddie had a little accident. Now four friends share a terrible secret.
Because Eddie hit someone and killed him.
Didn't he?
I gave this 3.75 stars on Goodreads. This was a pure nostalgia read for me. R.L. Stine wrote the Goosebumps books which were my earliest introduction into the thriller/horror genres. The set up, the writing style---it was all exactly how I remembered it. I was obsessed with his books then and I can still see the appeal now.
This was a short read (under 200 pages, I read it in one sitting) and while I don't think it is the pinnacle of fiction---or even my favorite R.L. Stine book---I actually enjoyed reading it. The characters in this book are very one dimensional, but I attributed that to the length of the book. There was a lot going on here, and with less than 200 pages, there wasn't much room to build personalities or detail their relationship dynamics. There were, however, plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep things interesting! This was a good way to ease myself into the spooky reads for the season---I'm ready to decorate for Halloween now!
Overall, I would recommend for readers age 10+. Death is an overarching theme in this book, which may not be suitable for all readers. As always, reader's discretion is advised. If you are an R.L. Stine fan, are just looking for a short spooky read---this might be a good option for you!
