The Bachelorette Party Review

I love when a book pleasantly surprises me! After a series of lackluster reads, I found one that really reminded me why I like to read. Those are kind of the best reads, the ones that restore your love of reading. Luckily, I picked this book up instead of another one and was able to avoid getting myself into a dreaded reading slump!

New Orleans: live music, endless drinks, brightly-coloured attractions, the perfect place for a party…

The bride-to-be

The best friend

The cousin

The mother-in-law

The sister

The groom’s friend

The bachelorette begins on a Friday night; all six women are excited for a chance to escape their everyday lives. But then friendly rivalries turn vicious, and a game of truth or dare turns deadly.

By the end of the weekend one of them will be dead…

I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads. Like I said at the beginning of this post, I was generally impressed with this. I was in desperate need of a decent read and this book did the job.

Of course, the synopsis had me hooked before I even read a page. Though the idea was nothing ground-breaking, the promise of an ensemble cast had me sold. I would liken this to the more somber, serious, and more murder-y cousin of the traditional pre-wedding-event-centered movie like The Hangover or Bridesmaids. Similar premise and an interesting, well assembled ensemble cast.

I do want to add that I LOVED the New Orleans setting. New Orleans is one of my favorite places that I have ever visited. I love the food, the music, the architecture, and the history of the city! Setting the book there was a simple and quick way to get to my heart. New Orleans certainly isn't the last place that an author would set a book but I also haven't read many (if any at all) books that took place there.

This was a quick read that captivated me from beginning to end. It was hard to put this book down--which is such a compliment and testament to the author!

Overall, I would highly recommend this one. Due to the use of adult dialogue, situations, and language throughout, I would suggest this book for readers 18+. If you are wanting a quick read, like ensemble casts, and love a good whodunnit mystery---try this one!

With all books that I read, I make a playlist to go along with the book. These playlists are full of songs which encapsulate the feeling of the story as a whole, capture the essence of a particular scene, or just remind me of one of the characters. You can find my playlist for The Bachelorette Party on Apple Music or Spotify.
